Two evenings of spring concerts are coming up the next two Fridays by the Academy of Visual Arts Music Dept. of Culver City High School.

This week’s 7 o’clock showcase at the Robert Frost Auditorium by the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts features the orchestra, Chamber Music ensembles, Chamber Singers, and the Jazz Combo.

The Chamber Singers will perform repertoire from their recent appearance L. A. Master Chorale Choir Festival at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The concert on Friday, May 27, concert features the high school Concert Band, the AVPA Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and Sax Ensemble.

The Concert Band gave a star performance in March at the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Assn.’s Band Festival at Lakeside High in Lake Elsinore.

They earned “Excellent” ratings from each performance adjudicator, as well as from the sight reading judge. The May 27 program will include their festival works, Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst and Cajun Folk Songs by Frank Ticheli.

The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo recently performed at the Fullerton College Jazz Festival on April 23. The Jazz Ensemble received “Excellent” ratings, while the Jazz Combo earned high scores and “Superior” ratings.
Both concerts are free. Donations are welcome.
