Only three more days to wait. Fiesta La Ballona returns to Vets Park on Friday afternoon, promising a three-day weekend of free musical entertainment, a beer garden and a bit of shenanigans from local Rotarians.

Traditionally, the Culver City Rotary is on hand as one of the local sponsors, an event produced by the city of Culver City. Once again, Rotary is resurrecting the Pokey – jail to younger brethren.

To get out of the Pokey, donate or have a friend donate, to the Culver City Schools Backpack Program.  Monies collected will buy food and school supplies for needy CCUSD children.

Stuff the Pokey with food.  Each Friday backpacks are given to needy children, as determined by school staff.  The backpacks may provide the only food they have for the entire weekend.

Here are ideas for food you may bring to the Fiesta to Stuff the Pokey:  Pudding cups, chocolate and vanilla, shelf stable milk, macaroni and cheese, cup noodles, peanut butter  (12- or 16-ounce plastic jars), granola and cereal bars, fruit cups (in individual serving containers), oatmeal (in individual serving packets), canned beef stew, meat pasta (pop-top cans), wrapped rolls of crackers (Ritz, for example), and breakfast cereals in individual serving size bowls or boxes.

Visitors to Fiesta La Ballona are invited to stop by the Rotarians’ booth and learn about the club. If you are lucky, you won’t end up in the Pokey.

The Culver City Rotary folks will be next to the music stage and beer garden.

You can find out more about the Rotary Club, get to know your neighbors, help build the community and make friends at the Rotary Club, which has been giving back to the community since 1930.
