[Editor’s Note: After last week’s daring attempted robbery of the One West Bank, Raintree Plaza, the Honorary Poetess Laureate of Culver City rhythmically flashed back to the moment, as is her custom.]

After Police Chief Scott Bixby described what happened at last evening’s City Council meeting, including the actions of local citizens, I decided I need to add a few lines.

I want to honor those who called 9-1-1, who took a photo of the license plate and followed the car as it left the scene.

It is clear that the citizens of Culver City played an important role in catching all four perpetrators.

I need to develop a poem about our citizenry and their involvement in keeping our community safe through such actions and being trained in the Citizen’s Police Academy and for the Community Emergency Response Team. One will be forthcoming.

The Crime

Last week Culver City was shocked by the brazen robbery attempt at a local One West Bank.  As the media covered the events, it became clear that, once again, our law officers in the Culver City Police Dept. and Ricky James, the One West Bank security guard, were doing their utmost to protect the citizens of Culver City.

Our bank has a brave security guard

And we now know what he is there for

To provide protection for us and our money

As he stands guarding the door

A few days ago at our local bank branch

Four guys attempted a robbery.

Shots were fired at our security guard

But he kept the robbers at bay

Our CCPD arrived on the scene

Within minutes after the call

They nabbed two of the perps

Then caught the others in a store not far from the mall

Our law officers deserve our thanks

Be they police or security guards

Without them our town wouldn’t be safe

We’d be afraid to go out in our yards!

So thank you all for saving the day

And making us happy we live here

Every day you put your lives on the line

So in Culver City we can live without fear.
