To Save the World

It was to save the world for peace that WWI was fought

A war to end all wars was what the soldiers sought

Instead they found their efforts turned out to be for naught

For in 20 years the world was once again distraught

At seeing how the Nazis and the Fascists threatened peace

While peoples of the world just wanted threats to cease
So once again its citizens took up arms against the foe
To defend our freedoms and protect the rights we know

When Communists threatened Korea, our troops were put on alert

Then they went to Vietnam and came home to a bigger hurt

When our loyal servicemen who had answered duty’s call

Were mistreated by their countrymen after they had given their all

Now we are concerned about the Jihad and the terrorists

Yet we know we can depend upon our soldiers to protect us

Although we wish for peace and that we’d see the end of war

What choice is there but to defend — until the threat’s no more.

Tomorrow we will honor our Veterans and we hope the problems with the Veterans Administration and concerns that Veteran care issues are not being dealt with appropriately will soon be solved…

Our living veterans
and those we have lost,
should be honored,
not just on Memorial Day and Veterans Day…
Those still with us
should be cared for
and cherished
the rest of their days
for serving their country
for putting their lives
on the line.
