At a special meeting tomorrow afternoon, the School Board is expected to approve the hiring of Dr. Joshua Arnold of Los Alamitos as superintendent of the Culver City Unified School District, effective Friday.

As successor to Dave LaRose, who resigned last winter after four years, Dr. Arnold will open with a three-year contract at a salary of $210,000.

The new super’s prospective hiring could be a boon for Culver City restaurateurs.

His pals describe him as an avid foodie. They say he tries to visit at least one new restaurant a week, and he passes on his recommendations to staff.

Orange County-oriented, Dr. Arnold is a16-year veteran in public education.

He has spent the last four years in Los Alamitos, two as principal of Los Alamitos High School and the last two as assistant superintendent, educational services, for the Los Alamitos Unified School District.

Previously, the presumptive Culver City super was an English teacher in Santa Monica, an assistant principal in Boston – he had earned his master’s at nearby Harvard – and an assistant principal at Fountain Valley High School, near his Huntington Beach home.

Colleagues say that his main hobby is researching teaching and learning, that he loves working with students and staff, and that he provided strength and diversity to the District Cabinet.

Dr. Arnold and his wife Claire are the parents of two children, Isabella, 4, and Anthony.
