Mr. LaRose

With little more than a month remaining in his four-year term as superintendent of the School District, Dave LaRose, who just crossed the 50-yard-line of his life, says he probably has been “less calculating about career trajectories and pathways than I should have been.”

How did Dave and Mindy LaRose conclude that this spring is the time to make his next career move –into the literally unknown?

They will not be taking a sudden lurch next month when he and they enter the next phase of their now unpredictable lives.

“Mindy and I have been talking about it and praying about it for awhile,” Mr. LaRose said.

“I have always been adept at harnessing what I call ‘professional frustration.’”

In the first public analysis of his superintendency, Mr. LaRose acknowledged that “there are parts of the work that are not as uplifting as other parts.

“If you can harness that as motivation for doing why you do what you want to do, to make things better and stronger for kids, then okay.”

What are the odds Mr. LaRose will leave education?

“I definitely am going to leave that open,” he said.

“I think my next steps will be around consulting, teaching, (non-athletic) coaching – from an administrative perspective, maybe work with those who are preparing to do the day-to-day as opposed to actually doing the day-to-day.”
