Duh, I Should Have Known Better

For those of you following my Duhs, you know they have been written about infrequently.

Since 2008, I have written essays containing only 86 Duhs.

After I received a package today with three items, I began thinking that each one is a Duh.

Hey, maybe everything I receive is a Duh. Maybe everything I do is a Duh.

For those new to my Duhs, I see things that happen in my life as sort of a kick in the head. Or, as I like to say in the form of analogy, “I could have had a V-8.”

Today I received three items in a package from Amazon.com. There was a container of Metamucil, a two-way tap splitter for the faucet in the backyard, and an Adobe Photoshop Elements editing program for my pictures. Let’s look at each one for a minute to see just how it is actually a DUH.

Why is the Metamucil such a kick in the head? A few weeks ago at Costco, I purchased their brand of fiber supplement. I didn’t like it because it didn’t compare to my old trusty friend, Metamucil. So my Kirkland fiber supplement containers, one partially used, are sitting on my computer room sofa with the receipt taped to it. Why is this event a Duh?

Because I knew when I bought the Kirkland brand, that I was taking a risk. Duh.

Here is a Turn-on

The picture of the new two-way splitter for the faucet in the backyard attracted me right away on Amazon. Why? Because it had two large handles I could use to turn off the water supply to either my hose or to my watering timer for the drip system.

Why is the splitter such a Duh? Because I have been trying for months to turn the water on and off using a wrench on the broken adjuster knobs on my old splitter. Why didn’t I look on Amazon before for a splitter with long handles?  Duh.

Get the Picture?

My new Adobe Photoshop Elements edition No. 15 photo-editing program replaces edition No. 9 that I have had since 2009, the year I bought my iMac.  When I had my Mac OS X system erased and reformatted last week, I lost all my installed programs. I was able to re-install all of them except my Adobe program because I no longer had the installation code available. There was nothing left to do but buy a new program.  Why does this new Adobe package fall into the Duh category?  Because I waited so very long to get a new photo-editing program.  There are so many wonderful things that the new program can do. Duh.

Maybe I should look at every package I have received from Amazon over the past several years to understand how each of those items was a Duh.

Maybe I should look at everything I do every day, at every hour, to understand how those behaviors can be considered Duh.

Duh. I need a nap now.
