Former School Board member Jessica Beagles-Roos, left, with Anne Burke and Scott McVarish

Göran Eriksson, candidate for the City Council in next April’s election and a co-host of Sunday morning’s meet ‘n greet for two School Board candidates, talked about how he reached a decision to back the team of Anne Burke and Scott McVarish.

Standing quietly in the kitchen of the Paul and Madeline Ehlrich home, site of many meet ‘n greets, Mr. Eriksson said he reached a knotty decision after attending two candidate forums:

“From the forums, I concluded that all three candidates (including Prof. Kelly Kent) probably would work on the School Board. I don’t doubt that.

“But Anne and Scott clearly showed they have a much better understanding of the School District, and they have been involved for a longtime. So they have a history. They have been engaged in the District. That is what convinced me,” Mr. Eriksson said.

Ms. Burke said she has been gratified by the enthusiasm of the community for her candidacy and that of her teammate, Mr. McVarish.

“We see it here today, with voters we have met when Scott and I are out walking, and we saw it at Saturday night’s (United Parents of Culver City) event,” she said.

“For me, that kind of support and enthusiasm says a lot.”

Especially on a steamy weekend of perspiration temperatures. “When people open their doors, they say ‘You must really be dedicated. If it is 118 degrees and you are walking,’” Ms. Burke said with a laugh, “they say ‘Good for you.’”
