Re: “Robins Reflects on Her Teaching Days”

Sue Robins estimates that the strongly needed technological upgrades for the Middle School and Culver City High School can be achieved “in a couple of years.”

Most of the current students “will derive benefits from the upgrades,” the School Board member said.

“If we go to more expensive upgrades later, of course our elementary and Middle School students will gain the benefits.”

Ms. Robins furrowed her brow as she spoke. “Estimating the times is a tough one,” said the former teacher. “There always is going to be someone who says, ‘Oh, I wish they had done that while I was there.’

“But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be done, right?”

Is the pace upgrades satisfactory?

“I believe so,” Ms. Robins said. “The challenge, when you are running a school district, is, you want to do as much as you can during the summer so you don’t impact teaching and learning.”

Question: Two years into her first term on the School Board, has Ms. Robins been surprised by any developments?

“Surprised is not the right word,” she said. “Impressed is a more accurate way to describe how constantly, pleasantly pleased I am by the level of professionalism and the commitment I see for the quality of education and care for our children. Iam talking about the administrators we have in place now, David LaRose, Dr. Kati Krumpe, Mike Reynolds, Leslie Lockhart. They are an incredible team.  I have not seen any team like it in all of my years in Culver City.”
