Re “Jim, Diana Solomon Were F.O.S.: Friends of Scott Wyant

[Editor’s Note: There will be a memorial service for Scott Wyant on Sunday evening at 6:30 at the Vets Auditorium.]

In the week that his friend Scott Wyant, surfer extraordinaire,  has been gone, Jim Solomon has been swimming in difficult memories.

Hardly anyone could have loved the ocean as much as the husky, congenial, condition-conscious late Planning Commissioner-City Council candidate-master computer technician.

Mr. Wyant did not swim and surf alone.

“Scott took my son Zack, who passed away five years ago, under his wing. He taught Zack how to body board, how to surf, and become a true waterman.”

Mr. Solomon’s voice thinned.

“It’s just hard for me to even talk about it. Scott was like my son’s second father.

“When my son passed away, Scott kept the memory card.

“Scott wanted the card right away. He put it on his dashboard. It never left there.

“The last time I saw Scott was last week. We had a really nice time.

“He wanted the memory card. I pulled another card out of my wallet. He was trembling.

“He looked at it.

“He motioned to put it up on one of the pictures across from his bed so he could look at it.

“I mean, what a guy,” Mr. Solomon said.
