Scott Wyant is a proud Democrat, and the City Council candidate wants that conviction more widely known.

“I want to make clear that I am proud to have gained the endorsement of the Chamber of Commerce this week,” Mr. Wyant said this morning. “But I don’t want anyone to think that is all I have to offer the city of Culver City.

“Here is one thing that stands out and makes me different from the other people who received the Chamber’s endorsement.

“I am the only candidate who appears in front of the (County) Democratic party, in front of the Culver City Democratic Club and also appeared in front of the Sierra Club,” Mr. Wyant said.

“My supporters are much more centrist, and perhaps left-wing, than a lot of the people who were (at the Chamber forum) that day.”

No latecomer, Mr. Wyant declared that “I have been a Democrat my whole life.

“What I said at the Chamber forum, and I meant, was that (a Council seat) is not a place for on-the-job training.”

Mr. Wyant said he is battle-tested.

“My strength is that, besides the incumbent (Meghan Sahli Wells), I am the only person who was sitting on the dais who has been on television the last seven years (as a Planning Commissioner), making important decisions, based on long, careful study — and collaboration. We decide in front of a roomful of people. They may not agree with me, but I am accountable to them.”
