Community members are encouraged to bring the whole family for improvised performances by Culver City Middle School’s Improv Program at the end of the month.

In its eighth successful year, the Middle School Improv Program will stage five unique performances on Saturday, Jan, 28 and Sunday, Jan, 29.

The three Saturday shows are at 12 noon, 3:30 and 7.

Sunday’s performances will be at 2 o’clock and 5.

All stagings will be in the Fine Arts Theater at West Los Angeles College, 9000 Overland Ave., Culver City.

Tickets only are sold online at tinyurl.com/gl66tgp Discounts are available for School District staff/students. Fifth-graders are admitted free with paid adult.

The Middle School Improv Program is an amazing after-school activity offered to all interested Middle School students.

Taught by the same energetic, skilled professional improvisers for the last seven years, students work in weekly classes, intensive monthly workshops, and a pre-show weekend workshop to develop two performances per year.

The Improv Program naturally develops students’ inherent theatrical talent.

Rather than focusing on creating performers, however, it develops vital life skills of acceptance, flexibility, critical thinking, commitment, persistence, kindness, teamwork, and creating serious fun.

These skills translate directly to students’ academic performance, emotional/social intelligence, and their development of themselves as capable, mindful contributors to the world around them.

Just like the students themselves, each show will be one-of-a-kind, totally unrehearsed, and driven by audience suggestions.
