Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson, Councilmember Curren Price, and I will be featured today in one of the largest MLK Day parades in the nation: The Kingdom Day Parade.

The parade will run along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, from Western Boulevard to Crenshaw Boulevard. It will turn left on Crenshaw, and end at Leimert Park, at Crenshaw and Vernon.

At the conclusion of the parade, I will host the second annual Freedom Festival with the theme of “Love Trumps Hate.”

The Freedom Festival will feature an interactive Empowerment Tent highlighting community organizing among residents and active local and national campaigns to fight for criminal justice reform, protect Obamacare, fight for just immigration reform, and protect women’s health.

Additionally, the Freedom Festival will provide health resources to residents, job opportunities, musical performances, and food from local vendors.

I hope that I will see you at the Kingdom Day Parade and Freedom Fest.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
