In a joint effort by the Rotary Club and the Exchange Club, three members of the Police Dept., along with Police Explorer Scouts, will be honored next week, Wednesday, April 1.

The occasion is the Police Recognition Luncheon at 12 noon at the Four Points Sheraton, Green Valley Circle.

Sgt. Aubrey Kellum, Det. Ryan Thompson and Parking Administrator Dianne Gifford are the leading honorees.

“It was difficult to make choices,” said Chief Scott Bixby, “because I think all of our people are outstanding.

“We had a Command Staff meeting. We talked a bunch of names, and then we whittled down the list.”

Mr. Bixby praised Ms. Gifford as “our resident expert in all things parking. She schedules our crossing guards, too. She is incredibly valuable with all of her expertise. Dianne has been a mainstay for a long time.”

Of Det. Thompson, Mr. Bixby said that “Ryan is one of our best. He has been responsible for a few different murder investigations. He also is in our high-tech crime task force with Beverly Hills.”

As for Sgt. Kellum, the chief said that “he is soon to be an acting lieutenant. He does all of our mutual aid stuff, special events, Fourth of July, Presidential visits.”
