After a spirited kickoff last month and an important meeting with state Sen. Holly Mitchell (who agreed to contribute $1,000 to the campaign) it is time to kick the campaign to elect Daniel Lee to City Council into high gear.

His first campaign fundraiser will be at the Mayme Clayton Museum, 4130 Overland Ave., on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 4 o’clock to 6:30.

The Mayme A. Clayton Library & Museum is home to the Mayme Agnew Clayton collection of African American history and culture.

The collection contains two million rare books, films, documents, photographs, artifacts, and works of art related to the history and culture of African Americans in the United States.

A special focus is placed on Southern California and the American West. The collection is one of the most important collections chronicling the history and culture of Americans of African descent in the United States of America.

Currently the museum is exhibiting: “Performance Portraits” by jazz photographer Bob Barry.

It features an exhibit in the Great Room foyer of portrait photographs of jazz performers and notables taken by Mr. Barry.

In addition to being able to view the collection and the current exhibit, attendees will be treated to music by friend and Grammy nominated recording artist Aloe Blacc (Interscope) who recently performed at the White House Holiday Party. Participants also may  comedy from Byron Bowers (the Eric Andre Show, Why? with Hannibal Buress, Jimmy Kimmel).

Mr. Lee is asking Culver City voters to “save the date so we can experience a night of political activism and cultural enrichment together while raising funds for the campaign and enjoying great R&B.

Tickets are $50, and $25 for students. But all are welcome regardless of means.
