When my family moved to Culver City 40 years ago, we were welcomed by our wonderful next door neighbors, Cliff and Mavis Axtell.

They had lived there for many years before we moved in.

Cliff left us about 18 years ago.

Seven years ago, most of the neighbors gathered at her home to celebrate Mavis’s 90th birthday.
Mavis passed away peacefully in her sleep at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.

She was 97 years old.
Mavis was a wonderful, sweet, and pleasant neighbor.

One could not help but love her.

Although childless herself ,she was helpful to our children as they grew up and became adults.

She will be missed by my family and most of the neighborhood who had the great opportunity to know her.

She will be placed at rest on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 12 noon at the Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary, 3801 W. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood 90305, Telephone: 310.412.6811, Fax: 310.672.3932, El Sereno Section, Lot 768C with services at the graveside.
