Brentwood residents today are urging the Los Angeles City Council to oppose the Archer School for Girls’ $100M building project.

They warn that the massive campus expansion plan will worsen the existing nightmarish traffic conditions on Sunset Boulevard and pose possible air quality dangers for students and neighbors alike.

Local residents, including a dozen homeowner groups and hundreds of petition signers, have repeatedly urged Councilman Mike Bonin, who represents Brentwood, to delay the Archer project at least until all environmental impacts are fully understood and mitigated.

The Archer private prep school, is at 11725 Sunset Blvd., one of the city’s most notorious traffic congestion hotspots.

The Archer matter is item 12 on the council’s agenda. The meeting starts at 10 am.

The Archer project has sharply divided Brentwood. A small group of residents backs the school’s building project while the vast majority of neighbors believe it will seriously worsen the traffic mess that already exists along a 1.2 mile corridor of Sunset between the 405 Freeway  and Kenter/Bundy Drive.

Residents say they are now virtual prisoners in their homes during peak rush hours and find it incredible that Archer’s supporters have argued that the campus expansion plan will actually reduce the Sunset corridor’s traffic congestion.
