Another Dimension

Robert EbsenOP-ED

My latest hobby is pop-up cards.

Why?

Probably because I am a 3D aficionado (spell that n-u-t).

I am visually oriented.

I get my kicks seeing things that are usually in 2D, turn into 3D.

A gimmick?

Yes.

But I love it.

It harks back to my youth in the 1950s, memories of the 3D comic books and 3D movies.

Sublime!

Exciting!!

Enough to possibly cause your nose to bleed from the excitement.

Pop-ups, 3D — why do I need them?

After all, everything I see in life is in 3D.

Isn't that enough?

It's not enough.

I need the 3D fix for the thrill of seeing 2D pictures and films turn into something really special.

How about us turning our everyday lives into something very special.

Not by donning 3D glasses, but by looking at things in a new way.

How about a smile and a greeting for strangers on the street, in the market, on the bus?

That's turning something 2D-ish into something really 3D-ish.

Why?

Because now you are making someone else's day stand out with that smile and greeting.

Nice hat!

Beautiful kid!

Pretty dress!

Great day, isn't it?

So why do I still need my 3D fix, my pop-ups and 3D movies if I almost always smile and greet people I see?

Aha.

That's extra satisfaction I receive for the times when I am not greeting live people.

It really does feel good to give as well as to receive.

God bless.
