Did He Drop a Gum Wrapper on the Sidewalk?

Neil Gorsuch

Minutes after President Trump announced his first Supreme Court nominee last evening, Larry Elder made a prediction on his popular radio show:

“How much do you want to bet Democrats come up with a racism charge against him?”

Skinny-skinned libby bigots are in high dudgeon. This is Tuesday, isn’t it?

By even liberal yardsticks, 49-year-old Judge Neil Gorsuch brings an immaculate record to the Court.

He was a brilliant choice by Mr. Trump after the weekend flap over a crackdown on travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries. For the president, this amounts to hitting a home run after striking out in his previous at-bat.

It galls petty left-wing newspapers such as the Los Angeles Times, USA Today and The New York Times that Judge Gorsuch is conservative. Were he “moderate,” (left of center), they grunted this morning, welllll, maybe we could possibly, not definitely, consider maybe not bellowing too loudly against him.

Last year when President Obama nominated left-wing Judge Merrick Garland, the Times of New York judged him “reliably liberal.”

This morning, munching on the sourest grapes they could find, the Times was crying a different tune, shedding politically correct colored tears. They said Judge Gorusch “stole” Judge Garland’s seat.

Mr. Trump, the courageous bullies wailed, should have nominated a “moderate.” They cited Judge Garland because “he is both more moderate and more qualified than Judge Gorsuch.”

In the stoutly anti-religious tradition of leftists, the Times showed its disdain again for normal Americans by criticizing Judge Gorsuch for voting “consistently in favor of religious-liberty claims.”

Horrors. Next the brave bullies may come out against free speech, the kind they don’t agree with.

You make an excellent point. Senate Democrats should grant Neil Gorsuch exactly the same open-mindedness and courteous consideration that Senate Republicans granted Merrick Garland. Remember how swiftly the GOP Senate acted to confirm Judge Garland? Senate Democrats should vote to confirm Judge Gorsuch with the exact same swiftness.
