Dateline Dayton — Brock Turner is receiving a lot a media attention since his release from a Northern California jail. What he did was terrible. But it’s not his fault he received such a light sentence. None of us would tell a judge we should be in jail longer, for what we did.
The problem is the judicial system and the judge. Many people are unhappy with the judge. They are working to get him removed from the bench, a correct instinct.
Yes, Mr. Turner lost a lot. That, though, is no excuse for such a light sentence. Mr. Turner raped a girl. She also lost a lot. Her situation was worsened when her attacker received such a light sentence, 6 months, and he was released after serving only half of the time.In my opinion, this situation shows how we have lost respect for one another.
Kaepernick Fiasco
The National Football League has again caused my blood pressure to rise. A player not standing for our national anthem is a disgrace. It should not be tolerated.
America is not perfect, but that’s no excuse for not standing and removing you hat, for the Anthem.
These players should be fired by the team and banned from playing in the NFL. Let them play for a foreign team, where they think things are better. They make a lot of money. Instead of refusing to stand, such players could be working to solve the problems.
If the San Francisco 49ers do not deal with this insult to America, the National Football League should. I see where the coach of the USA Hockey team, pledged not to play a player who does not stand for the anthem. Good for him!

Have we lost all respect for life? High school students and one graduate in in the Dayton suburb of Kettering had an ongoing dispute that ended in one innocent student being killed. Guns and killings appear to be the answer to all our problems.
The main players, a 14 year old and an 18 year old already had criminal records. The younger boy was involved in a burglary, and the other took a baseball bat to another person. Drugs were involved.
Although my son and I disagree, gun control will not work. Criminals always will have access to guns.
Guns should be harder to acquire, especially by those with mental illnesses. That could eliminate a lot of guns owners.
Much of the gun violence can be traced to our lack of respect for life. We eliminate the lives of many babies every day.
Called abortion, it should be listed as killing.
