Beef Bowl Continues to be a Rose Bowl Tradition

Some traditions never grow old.

For the past 58 years Lawry’s Beef Bowl has been one of the favorite evenings of the college bowl season.

Lawry’s Prime Rib restaurant in Beverly Hills has served 20,200 players and coaches since 1956.

On Sunday and Monday, the University of Oregon and Florida State football teams enjoyed the premium prime rib in the Los Angeles area.

Before they meet in the Rose Bowl on Thursday in Pasadena in the national semifinal game for the football championship, the Ducks and Gators battled to see who could make more prime rib disappear.

Over the past 58 years, Rose Bowl players and coaches have eaten 78,000 pounds of Lawry’s roasted prime rib.

Every year the players and coaches are joined by the Rose Queen and her Court, Tournament of Roses officials and media.

This week the menu included Lawry’s famous spinning salad, roasted prime ribs of beef, mashed potatoes, whipped cream, horseradish, cream corn and chocolate helmet with white chocolate mousse and fresh berries.
