The UCLA softball team will try to move up in the Pac-12 standings this weekend against California – this evening at 7, on Saturday at 7, and on Sunday at 5.

The fifth-place Bruins (5-7) are 30-12 overall. Cal is 3-8 and 25-13.

After the California series, the Bruins will have nine more conference games, six on the road.

UCA relies on the pitching of Rachel Garcia and Selina Ta’amilo and the hitting of infielder Kylee Perez, freshman Bubba Nickles, catcher/first baseman Madeline Jelenicki and shortstop Delany Spaulding.

The Bruins have made changes on offense and defense that Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez hopes will give the 13th- ranked Bruins the edge they need to move up in the conference standings.

“We did not start the Pac-12 the way we wanted to,” said Inouye-Perez. “We had a lot of things going on but we went to work to try to get the best out of our players.\

“It does not matter who we play right now,” she said. “We are trying to play the best we can. We are still working on our consistency.”

Inouye-Perez said her team intends to make a run at the national championship.
