Five Culver City High School teams are looking to extend their seasons all the way to the CIF playoffs with much needed wins this week and next.

Every game is a must-win situation. As the late Al Davis, owner of the Raiders, used to say “Just win, baby.”

The girls and boys track and field teams, baseball, boys volleyball and softball will be in action this week.

The track and field teams will host the always exciting Ocean League finals, starting at 5 o’clock on Thursday.

Culver City, Beverly Hills, El Segundo, Hawthorne, Lawndale and Santa Monica will find out who has the best varsity and frosh/soph track and field teams in the league.

“It’s going to be a very competitive meet,” said girls Coach Rayfield M. Beaton after the league preliminaries last Monday at Culver City. “All of the schools in the Ocean League have great athletes.” After the league finals, the Centaurs who qualify will compete in the CIF preliminaries on Saturday, May 13.

The third-place baseball team (4-2, 9-14) travels to second-place Santa Monica on Thursday for a 3:15 game. They finish the regular season with two games next week — at Beverly Hills on Tuesday and home against Beverly Hills on Thursday. Both are 3:15 games.

The second place girls softball team (4-2, 10-10) hosts Hawthorne on Thursday at 3:15.

Monday they visit first-place Santa Monica on Monday and are home against Beverly Hills at Wednesday for 3:15 games.

The third-place boys volleyball team (4-3, 8-10) finished the regular season at last-place Beverly Hills yesterday.

The boys and girls lacrosse teams had successful seasons. The boys team plays at Palisades on Sunday at 12 noon.

The girls team finished their regular season with four wins in a row.
