Centaurs Strong at Mustang Relays

Spring break has arrived, and the Culver City High School sports teams break into action this weekend and next week when the baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls track and field teams showcase their skills.

The track team hopes to extend its unbeaten dual meet record tomorrow afternoon at 3 in Lawndale.

This will be one of their most difficult challenges.

“Lawndale is tough in every sport,” Coach Jahmal Wright, who also is the football coach, said after practice yesterday. “We know Culver City will be ready.”

At the Mustang Relays last week at Mira Costa High, several individuals and relays teams came away with gold and silver nedals.

Desmond Dickson placed first in the 400 meter hurdles, Steven Ashby finished second in the high jump and the  800 meter relay also was a runnerp.

On the girls side, Yasmin Ashley finished second in the high jump. The distance relay team placed first and the 4 x 200 relay team ran second.

Changing Sports

The 3-4 baseball Centaurs host Windward on Saturday at 12 noon.

Earlier Saturday morning, there will be a special event on the diamond:

From 9:30 to 11, the Centaurs will host the Challenger Baseball Program that highlights kids with special needs.  The baseball players will give instructions to the kids and let them know they can overcome their disabilities.

In softball, the girls, who are 5-5, will host Torrance on Friday at 3:15.

The 5-3 girls lacrosse team is at Hamilton on Thursday at 5:30.

The boys lacrosse team, at 3-4, hosts Peninsula at 5 on Thursday. On Tuesday, they will be home against Harvard Westlake at 4.
