Youth, high school, college and professional sports have become a year ‘round project.

After their seasons, serious athletes start training, sometimes the next day, for a season six to nine months away.

In high school football, summer passing leagues are the beginning to what players, coaches and fans hope to be a successful fall season.

“Passing leagues are extremely important,” said Culver City Coach Jahmal Wright, “because they help develop new varsity skill players.

“Passing leagues also finetune veteran players.”

For the past three weeks, the Centaurs have participated some of the best passing league tournaments in Southern California.

Last Saturday they competed against outstanding Division 1 schools. They were 3-1 in pool play. They won their first game in the second round and then lost to Gardena Serra 28-7.

Kevin McGuire, Alex Smith and Jamal Glaspie performed impressively on offense.

Defensively, the Centaurs relied on Jordan Armstrong, Cortez Wright and Smith.

For the next two Wednesdays, Culver City will host passing league tournaments inside the Jerry Chabola Stadium.
