Which Way for Troy?

Sam Darnold

USC has reached that fork-in-the-road time of the season that separates the good from the average.

Their game against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday – 7:45, ESPN — is important for several reasons.

The winner will lead the Pac-12 South.

If Troy wins and holds onto first place in November, they will qualify for the Pac-12 championship game in December against the North winner.

Determining what type of bowl game they will play in. Certain bowls are more prestigious.

The 6-2 Trojans are 4-1 in the Pac-12. Arizona State is 4-3 and 3-1.

The condition of quarterback Sam Darnold’s ankle is USC’s main worry.  Darnold’s original injury was two weeks ago, and he hurt it again last week against Notre Dame.

If Darnold is not 100 percent, the Trojans will be reduced to relying on their running game.
