Four Strong Reasons for Council to Oppose 26-Condo Plan for Irving Place

To our City Council members:

We object to the proposed multi-story development at 4043 Irving Pl., for 26 condos, 3 offices and 68 parking spaces because it would negatively impact the safety of your constituents by:


• congesting the accessibility of the Police Dept. and Fire Dept. to the rest of the community


• intensifying the parking, traffic and pedestrian safety issues that already exist in the area

• creating pollution affecting the 600-plus children under 12 who are attending schools within two blocks of the site


• damaging the historic Spanish cement homes on the adjacent lot.

The Redevelopment Agency that approved this project irresponsibly refused to look at studies done by independent agencies that contend the historic Spanish style homes will be damaged by the construction of this development as it is currently planned prior to voting on the project.

The validity of a Historic Designation is undermined if the city does not partner with the owners to preserve and protect the buildings.

The traffic study that was done for this project does not meet the standard set forth by Culver City. The traffic study looked at (meekly) projected additional traffic impact on four surrounding intersections.

Culver City requires that 11 intersections should have been studied.

The traffic report that was done does not take into account that there are already traffic/accident/speeding, parking and pedestrian safety issues in this area that need to be addressed and resolved- particularly at the height of drive time before adding more traffic to the area.

This project affords you the opportunity to illustrate your concern for the safety of the community you serve and protect the wonderful quality of life that we enjoy here in Culver City.

Please, seize it.

My husband and I implore you to redirect this project for the safety of your constituents and their children and the quality of the community character by requiring it to be scaled down to an appropriate size for the location: 8-12 cottage sized homes.
