A Stunner: Down to a 3-Person School Board?

The legendary drought has become so serious in Culver City that it has scorched and dried up the non-existent School Board race.

How can this be?

Not a candidate on the horizon, and the early August filing deadline is perilously close for the Nov. 3 election.

Two seats are open.

And open.

And open.

Following the recent announcements by Board president Nancy Goldberg and former president Laura Chardiet that they will not seek re-election, two of the Board’s five chairs are yawning.

Peculiarly, no one is stepping up to stifle the open mouths.

Will Steve Levin, Kathy Paspalis and Sue Robins be forced to sail alone after Dec. 1?

No.

Perennial candidates Robert Zirgulis and Gary Abrams have not been heard from.

This might have been their golden moment.

This startlingly quiet summer increasingly is looking like a comeback trail for two former Board members who surprisingly lost their last bids for re-election, Karlo Silbiger and Scott Zeidman.

Publicly, neither even has hinted, much less declared, a renewed run for office.

In this oddly empty season, will the lure of possible cinch victories draw them out of unplanned, and presumably uncomfortable, retirement?
