The first recognizable face at Sunday morning’s meet ‘n greet for Anne Burke and Scott McVarish belonged to Jim Clarke, Mr. Ubiquitous, the most aggressive City Councilman playing a role in the School Board campaign.
“I have known Anne and Scott for several years, and I have had a chance to work with them through the PTA,” Mr. Clarke said.
“I like their passion toward education and the kids. They are invested, and they are fully involved in our schools.
“I like the ideas they are promoting, especially the academies Scott is talking about.”
Mr. Clarke long has advocated a closer relationship between City Hall and the School District. In Culver City the two government entities live like brother and sister rather than as husband and wife.
“I have been talking, from the Council’s standpoint, how we need to work in close cooperation and partnership with the School District to help build the future of Culver City,” Mr. Clarke said.
“When we go out as a city to attract businesses to come here, I not only would like them to see we have quality schools, good housing, good public services, we also have well-trained potential employees for these employers.
“We are working with the School District, working with West L.A. College to identify what are those future jobs that we are training individuals for?”
The heart of the ever busy, ever-present Mr. Clarke’s shpiel to potentially relocating business owners is:
“‘When you come to Culver City, not only do we have all these great amenities, we have some really well qualified individuals ready to go to work for your company.’
“That,” Mr. Clarke concluded, “is the direction both Anne and Scott are talking about for Culver City.”

Well, I guess all three candidates have now been critiqued. Burke for her race, McVarish because he headed a volatile union (that seems redundant) and now Kent for wanting to do the Superintendent of Instruction’s job. Here’s my questions for each, and please respond quickly as I want to vote tonight. Burke- where were you born and are you a citizen? McVarish- are you still pro-union and are you a full-time attorney? Kent- what districts have YOU consulted at with your Adapted business and are you a professor or lecturer?

If Mr. McVarish is pro-union, why did he tirelessly work to prevent the adjuncts at El Rincon from unionizing?
