Linda Smith Frost, well-liked two-term former Planning Commissioner, died at 5 a.m. Saturday following a sudden, brief illness.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced by her husband David.

According to Mr. Frost’s email, she contracted the flu during the week of Jan. 10. Shortly it turned into pneumonia followed by an acute respiratory illness that was fatal. At the onset of her respiratory condition, Ms. Smith Frost was rushed to Ronald Reagan Hospital, UCLA.

“Linda was terrific, a wonderful, sweet, smart, thoughtful woman,” said Scott Wyant, who served beside Ms. Smith Frost on the Planning Commission. “She was sharp and to the point, always remaining balanced.

“Linda’s opinions were brief and exactly on point,” Mr. Wyant said. “She also maintained an appropriate sense of humor.”

One of her last public appearances came a month ago when she attended the formal launching of Mr. Wyant’s campaign for the City Council.

A property manager professionally, Ms. Smith Frost was in her element on the Planning Commission.

Previously the manager of a large property in Camarillo, more recently she had been managing the Villa Marina Marketplace, according to friend and neighbor Scott Malsin, former City Council member.

“Linda and David lived two blocks away from me” in Culver West, Mr. Malsin said. “They were very engaged in our neighborhood. Linda was always supportive on me politically, which I appreciated.

“I consider her death a great personal loss. She was the type of person who earned a lot of affection in my heart.

“We had a wonderful time enthusing about the restaurants that were coming into this part of town,” Mr. Malsin said.
