Scott McVarish and Anne Burke:

Are they a team? Or aren’t they?

As twinned candidates for the School Board in the Nov. 3 election, they have reaped miles of bonus coverage by promoting themselves as a joint entry.

Smart. Even sophisticated.

The message to voters is unmistakable: If you vote for him/her, your second vote should be cast for me because we are a matched set.

Crunch time, however, may have shattered the team dynamics.

The Teachers Union split ‘em up the other day, endorsing Ms. Burke — and Prof. Kelly Kent instead of Mr. McVarish.

First time that has happened. How would the team respond?

The wait continues.

Yesterday morning, The Question was put to both Ms. Burke and Mr. McVarish:

What is the significance of the Teachers Union endorsement, splitting you two?

Mr. McVarish’s 121-part answer follows.

“I couldn’t be more honored to have received the endorsement from the largest labor union in the state. At the endorsement hearing for The County Federation of Labor there were about three dozen unions represented. It was an honor to receive endorsement from so many union leaders. Similarly at the Chamber of Commerce, it was a packed room, as you remember, and United Parents of Culver City group has more members than any other endorsing group in Culver City other than the Chamber. So I’m very pleased that we both received those endorsements together. I’ll refer you to Laura (campaign manager Laura Chardiet) for more as I am jumping into a meeting now and have another long day until tonight’s League of Women Voters forum.”

Ms. Burke said she was working on a response.

The question whether Burke and McVarish are running as a team is not relevant to the election process.

The ballot will list three candidates separately and ask each voter to vote for ‘no more than two.’

Like the individual voter, any endorsing organization has the option of choosing ‘no more than two.’

The only team we should be thinking about is the five-member team known as the CCUSD Board. I expect to see the members of that team working together as individuals, not as representatives of organizations that have endorsed them.

I know for a fact that Scott Mcvarish is being treated for a brain tumor. Some voters might wish him the best with his treatment but why has he not disclosed this. Its the same for his co-conspirator Anne Burke who claims that she is an ethnic woman but just looks like a brunette to me. Kelly on the other hand has always been open with us. She will bring her online courses she teaches at Moorpark community college, which saves our tax money, and she is diverse because she thinks differently then the Twins which is a lot more important than hair color Burkagog. I exort my brothers and sisters to write in Karlo! in their ballot so that he and Kelly will not have to wait two more years to get back our majority!!
