Third in a series. Re: “Corlin: Second Time Never as Good as the First.”

Two-term former City Councilman Alan Corlin, he of the stentorian tones in a precise, authoritative manner, never left room for speculation during the first eight years of the century.

No one had to ask a second time for his opinion – as he is about to demonstrate this morning.

Always armed with musket full of transparency, Mr. Corlin, newlywed, retains those qualities seven years later when someone inquires whether term limits should be revisited.

“I believe as Mr. (Steve) Gourley (co-author of the term limits rule) believes. He was my mentor: Term limits are a good thing for Culver City.”

It was beginning to grow a little warm in here.

Vice Mayor Mehaul O’Leary is an advocate of term limits and known for being active on Council-related panels involving other agencies, such as the League of California Cities. Mr. O’Leary remarked with regret the other day that term limits would deprive him of a promotion on one of those panels.

Mr. Corlin took note.

“I don’t give a hoot about the League of whatever up there,” he said with an exclamation point attached.

“In my opinion, all the League is is a free trip to Sacramento a few times. Even if you pay for it yourself, I don’t think it’s worth it.”

What possible difference does the League of California Cities make in lives? Mr. Corlin wondered, rhetorically.

“I have not seen one city that gets anything decent out of the League,” he answered himself.

“I did not see any use for the League when I was on the Council.

“I am not sure I see any use for it now.”
