Bill Heins, a member of the board of the Culver City Firefighters Assn., said his union was impressed by Mr. O’Leary as a straight shooter and as one who is willing to make the tough decisions.” 
        David Mielke, president of the Federation of Teachers, said that “we are  confident with Mehaul on the City Council, the current level of support (for schools) will change.”
        The president of the Police Officers Assn., Frank LaFlamme, said that “it is our belief that virtually all other local quality of life issues are dependent on our officers being able to provide a safe environment through the highest standard of professional police service. After several discussions (with Mr. O’Leary), it is clear he shares this view.”
