A Shot of Energy for Fox Hills

The Culver City Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the continued effort to evaluate a new specific plan overlay zone in the Fox Hills area.

It would create the necessary incentives to encourage property owners to redevelop areas desperately in need of revitalization.

Further, a plan would have the potential to create the funding necessary to pay for a public infrastructure improvements —  bike paths, landscaping, lighting and enhanced streetscape improvements.

In a post-Redevelopment Agency world, this is precisely the type of mechanism that will encourage positive kinds of redevelopment.

By contrast, Downtown continues to be subsidized by the city to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

A revitalized Fox Hills, both in the proposed overlay zone area and beyond, would be able to stand alone and continue to contribute significant revenues to the city’s General Fund.

The Chamber encourages the City Council to move forward with this effort as quickly as possible.

Every day we waste is another day that we are not taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the new, high-tech companies moving into Playa Vista.

We urge you to undertake the processing of the environmental impact report and the analysis specific plan quickly.

That way, all appropriate issues can be analyzed as part of the public process.
