California’s new sick leave law takes effect today.

The law applies to all private and public sector employers regardless of size. It  covers all employees, including part-time workers.

There is much misinformation and confusion about what is now required.

I am including links to two important documents that help explain this new law.

The first is a “Who, What, When and How” document that provides an overview of mandatory paid sick leave in California.

The second is a post from the CalChamber’s HR Watchdog that discusses the importance of having a written paid sick leave policy in place.

Finally, I have a link to a CalChamber video that is an easy way to access information about the new mandate.

I encourage you to watch it as there is a lot of misleading information about the law and in particular the number of days employers must provide.

It is important that all employers understand what the new mandate involves and have access to resources that can ensure they are in compliance.

As an employer, you may want to consult a labor and employment counsel with specific questions. Contact the Chamber at 310.287.3850 for a referral to a Chamber member.
