If you have not noticed, the crowded field of nine candidates for the City Council has become strikingly creative.
For a race where most of them — eight men and one woman — are unknown to the community, they are seeking to steal attention away from rivals with fired-up imaginations.
In chronological order, here is what five of them are doing in just the next few days:
Jeff Cooper
Starting this Saturday afternoon at 12:30, Mr. Cooper will demonstrate what he means by striving for a “Healthy Culver City.”
He is promoting Taco Talks in El Marino Park, deep in the heart of Sunkist Park.
He promises to serve up conversation with curious voters along with a side of Carne Asada tacos.
“Since I was a kid, food has always been a great way to get to know folks,” Mr. Cooper said. “I know it seems a little corny, but in our family food brings people together. My weekly ‘Taco-Talks’ will be a way for me to get to know my neighbors and for them to learn a little about me.”
After lunch, Mr. Cooper will invite voters to walk the neighborhood with him and talk about a Healthy Culver City.

Christopher Armenta
If you enjoy quaffing a cool one, and a unique one, Mr. Armenta’s “Beer Tasting Night,” Friday, Feb. 22, from 5 to 7:30 may be your cup of tea — or beer.
Surfas, at the corner of Washington and National boulevards, will play host.
This is a fundraiser, and so it will cost $25. Your reward, apart from getting acquainted with Mr. Armenta, will be a chance to taste Canadian beers from Unibroue in Quebec.

Andy Weissman
Here is another way to get to know a candidate.
“Saturdays in the Park with Andy,” will start on Feb. 23, from 11 to 1, at Lindberg Park, 5041 Rhoda Way.
Mr. Weissman, whose experience in and around City Hall seriously exceeds that of nearly all rivals, will return two weeks later, March 8, at 11 a.m. at Carlson Park, Braddock Drive and Motor Avenue.

Dr. Luther Henderson
Beginning at 1 o’clock on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Jazz Bakery, 3233 Helms Ave., Dr. Henderson will host what he is calling “A Star-Studded Musical Extravaganza.”
Officially, this will be Opening Day for his campaign.
A fundraiser, Dr. Henderson’s program will spotlight standouts from the world of jazz, including a 17-piece big band ensemble. .
There will be two performances, the leadoff show at 2.

Loni Anderson
Ms. Anderson walked away yesterday with two of the prize endorsements of the election season.
The Culver City Police Officers Assn. and the Los Angeles County Democratic Committee both have declared their formal support of Ms. Anderson.
In addition, on Friday, Feb. 29, from 7 until 9 p.m., Ms. Anderson will host a special screening of “Who Killed the Electric Car,” by Chris Paine, at Haas Entertainment, 5774 Uplander Way. Mr. Paine and Chelsea Sexton, an EV1 specialist in the film, will be on hand. A $15 donation is suggested. Ms. Anderson will discuss her ideas for making Culver City more carbon neutral and sustainable.
