Hello, Las Vegas

Mike HennesseyOP-ED

Today I am in Las Vegas with my brother-in-law for the Four Queens Silver Strike Slot Tournament, which will be starting tomorrow evening.

We left Dayton early this morning and arrived in Vegas about noon.

After taking a shuttle from the airport to the hotel, we have checked our bags, because we are not able to get into our room.

We will rent a car for a day to visit a few places and return later to check into our room.

Then it will be back out for the evening.

Our first stop tonight will be the Palms, to check on their Silver Strike Machines and drop a few quarters. Then over to Hooters for supper. They serve good food amidst “pleasant” surroundings. After supper and a walk though their casino it’s over to Planet Hollywood to see what strikes they have in their Silver Strikes Machines.

After a little play, we’ll do a walk- through of their casino and before returning to the car for the trip back downtown.

About 2 a.m. Friday, I will get up to play the strike machines at the Four Queens. Since their machines are very busy with tournament players, it’s easier to play at that hour. Once I have enough strikes to get a $200 token (20), it’s back to bed for a short time.

At 5 a.m., we will head over to Sam’s Town so I can play their Silver Strike Machines, again trying to get enough strikes for their $200 token. After that is accomplished or I give up, which probably will come first, we’ll get breakfast.

After leaving Sam’s, we will visit a few other casinos, which haven’t been determined as yet, prior to returning to the car. Then it’s to our room to freshen up, prior to attending the opening festivities for the strike tournament, which has in the past, included a nice buffet. We will also get our tournament play schedule for Saturday and Sunday, at that time.

Saturday we will have two sessions, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. Saturday night there will be a trade session, where you can buy or trade Strikes to fill-in your collection. I don’t have Strikes to trade. Normally I don’t buy strikes. However, I do like to look at what’s available for sale and the prices they are bringing.

Sunday morning, we will have our final session at the slot machine. In the afternoon there will be the awards banquet, with cake and champagne. Sunday evening is open, at this time, and early Monday we will leave for home.

I’ll give you a report on how we did, in a future article.
