[Editor’s Note: Mr. Clarke is a member of the City Council.]

Today for the second year, we are holding a Non-Profit Volunteer Service Day at Culver City High School from 11 to 1.

We have 25 non-profit organizations participating, five more than last year.

The entire student body gets involved.

Non-Profit Volunteer Service Day provides an opportunity for the students to learn more about and get interested in the non-profit organizations that offer services to Culver City residents.

This gives students a chance to sign up with these organizations and complete their community service hours requirement.

We have found the event affords an  opportunity for the non-profits to get to know each other and explore ways to collaborate.

I undertake this project with the student leaders Natalia Saucedo and Mia Mavromichalis and student affairs staff, Dr. Carlos Valverde and Adrienne Madrid at the high school, and the support of the School Board.

I am assisted by Sierra Smith, Director of External Affairs at Antioch University and co-chair of the Culver City Chamber of Commerce’s Non-Profit Committee.
