Two Body Shops

Robert EbsenOP-ED

My car is in the shop.

And my body is healing on its own from a guy's uncovered sneeze on the airplane last week.

Here's my essay about two body shops.

Let's say you could have another, almost new, body to use for 3 or 4 weeks while your body was being healed by someone else — for $500.

Would you prefer that to paying only a few dollars and having to suffer for 3- or 4 weeks with your original body, until it healed?

The day may come when you'll have that choice.

But for now, V (Valley Motors) fixes only vehicles, and K (Kaiser) fixes only people.

The Damages

V:  Body gets hurt (banged up a bit; no get up and go, etc.)

K:  Body gets hurt (banged up a bit, no get up and go, etc.)

The Appointments

V:  Call to arrange a date and time to take the body in State symptoms and likely causation.  Call for the use of another body until your own body is okay.
K:  Call to arrange a date and time to take the body in State symptoms and likely causation.  No spare bodies to use while yours is healing

The Waits

V:  Wait about 30 minutes at the place where they'll diagnose and fix your body problem.  Wait about 30 minutes at the place where they give you another body.  Usually takes about 3 or 4 weeks to “heal” the body.  Wait about 30 minutes when you come to get your fixed body

K:  Wait about 30 minutes at the place where they diagnose your body problem.  Wait about 30 minutes at the place where they give you meds.  Usually takes about 3-4 weeks to “heal” the body

The Costs

V:  Pay $500 when all better, no matter what the damage.  Insurance pays for a loaner body until your body is better

K:     Pay $10 up front, and $10 for meds for each visit.

The Upshots:

The differences between V and K

The Damages: Same

The Appointments: Same, except V offers another body to use

The Waits:     Same

The Costs: V is much more costly, unless you visit your K body shop about 25 times for your ailment

Stay well!!
