Converts to Judaism?

Another Liberal First

I have lived long enough to have four grandchildren. Until last month I never had heard of any of the world’s 195 countries being charged by the “international community” with “disproportionately” reacting to an attack against its people. Long Beach police say the punks they picked up looked and smelled like typical taggers who may be coming to a neighborhood near you soon. To their credit, Long Beach police showed up in a flash last Sunday morning after neighbors spotted the no-goods loitering at Temple Beth Shalom in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood. To their discredit, Long Beach police say the boys were not attempting a “hate crime,” that they just as easily could have been getting ready to paint, or graffiti, your house or mine at 3 in the morning. This, of course, is odious police baloney.

Another Sad Liberal Legacy

The phony concept of “hate crime” is one of the curses of contemporary American society. It was dreamed up a few years ago by our intellectually impoverished liberal friends who have dedicated their lives to creating victims, even if they have to make up the stories. “Hate crime,” as an act, is an utter fiction. As long as it is on the books, however, it should be applied. Of course, it often isn’t in any meaningful way. Long Beach is proof. The Long Beach case this week is a prime example of what a joke the term and the concept are. The boobish proclamation by Long Beach police that the boys just took a walk to the nearest synagogue to let their chili and drugs cool off at home is preposterous. It may not have escaped your attention that the boys did not decide to redesign the exterior of the nearest Lutheran church, only a synagogue. That may be puzzling to liberals, who say that good guys and bad guys are equal, but it is not puzzling to sensible people. By the darnedest coincidence, the Long Beach boys struck a synagogue one day after a story hit the newspapers that evidently was their inspiration. The latest mad Muslim, 30-year-old Naveed Afzal Haq, shouting his hatred of Jews and Israel, sneaked into the Jewish Federation building in Seattle, crouched behind a potted plant in the lobby, grabbed a 13-year-old girl as captive, shot and killed one woman, and wounded five other women.

Postscript

Unfortunately but predictably, the story died faster than the Jewish community volunteer did. There are many angles to be explored, notably the killer’s weeks of plotting and the fascinating background of the murdered woman, a convert to Judaism. Would you think it would spark the curiosity of journalists. Alas, newspapers, fearing a Muslim backlash, are not interested. Instead, the Los Angeles Times — scared to death of Muslim reprisals — provides a daily platform for a disgusting photographer named Carolyn Cole, a hate agenda-driven ideologue. After months of invisibility, Ms. Cole, by the darnedest coincidence, has just happened to resurface in Lebanon where she is allowed to promote her Jew-hating mission. A Jew-hater can always find work.
