Poetic Salute to Culver City Sister City Committee

[Editor’s Note: At last week’s City Council meeting, before her tribute to Culver City’s Sister City Committee, Dr. Hoult explained her altered appearance.]

Honorable Mayor O’Leary and City Council members,

The whiplash happened when I was waiting in Charley’s parked car for him to finish working with his rocket engineers at Cal State Long Beach. A student who was parked behind me accelerated and lost control of his car while exiting his parking place.  Charley’s car was diagnosed today and will be fine. I will take a bit longer to heal…

Yesterday, we both went to the third Architecture Talk organized by our Cultural Affairs Commission at the architecture and design firm wHY.  It was superb. Again this emphasized the excellent businesses we have in Culver City.  In speaking with architect Kulapat Yantrasast, who is from Thailand, I was reminded of how culturally diverse our businesses and citizenry are.  Indeed, we have a small United Nations here in town, and we can also boast of a Sister City Committee that for many years has worked with our Sister Cities in Lethbridge, Canada, Urupan, Mexico, and Iksan, South Korea.

Today Culver City has received a presentation from Iksan’s Honorable Mayor Park Kyung-Chul, seonsaeng nim.

Thank you/gamsahamnida and have a safe trip home/annyong hashimniika.

Thank You, Sister City Committee

Thank you, gracias, gamsahamnida

We owe our thanks to you

For bringing our cities together

Teaching citizens old and new

About our different cultures

Yet how much we are the same

Helping us all to understand

The difference may be only in name

So each member of the committee

Is a teacher and deserves an honorific

For each of you is a seonsaeng nim

And in my mind…really terrific…!
