Bleak Future, Bass Says

Ms. Karen Bass

For nearly 30 minutes yesterday, a furious U.S. Rep. Karen Bass (D-Culver City/Crenshaw District) ranted, without relief, about the cabinet selections of President-elect Trump.

Too many Democrats stayed home on Election Day, Ms. Bass said in attempting to explain why Mr. Trump upset Hillary Clinton.

The three-term member of Congress blistered every Trump choice

After charging that the president-elect will be seeking “to enrich himself,” the question for disappointed Democrats, “the question is, what are we going to do about this? We need to fight back comprehensively and aggressively.

“The trouble was that people were not excited by either candidate,” said Ms. Bass. “They decided they were not going to vote. Educating people between elections is important so they can understand there are consequences for  not voting.”

That was her explanation for the mass humiliation of the Democratic party, failing in bids to take over at least one house of Congress while President Obama continued to lose congressional seats at a record pace – the most in history.

“Here is my concern: While we are wishing for miracles, hoping we will wake up in the morning and find it was a nightmare, Republicans are planning to restructure government and destroy much of what we fought for the last 40 years – Medicare, Social Security, Obamacare, public education.”

I don’t know who “A Correspondent” is, or why they did not use their own name, but I was at the 12/11 meeting at Palms Middle School, and she was not “ranting” at all. She was thoughtful and intelligent in her responses. If she seems to paint a bleak picture, it’s because the picture is bleak. I am proud to call her my congress member and hope there are many more politicians out there who are willing to stand up for what’s right.
