Happy New Year, AVPA

Twenty years ago this month, in 1996, the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts at Culver City High School set off on its first semester of classes and productions.

Anxious teachers and students collaborated to chart a new course for arts education in the School District.

Twenty years later, generations of students have experienced the joys of art-making across five departments — Art, Dance, Film, Music and Theatre.

So many precious memories have been created — and many more are about to be made.

For those returning and new to the program this year, at 7 o’clock this evening, there will be an Information and Orientation meeting in the Robert Frost Auditorium.

All students and parents/guardians are invited to attend to learn more about this year’s programming and audition process. We’ll have a general overview then break into department sessions.

To get a head start, click here to go to our “apply” page. Here you can find:

We’ll be posted our production and events calendar soon!

AVPA 20 Campaign

AVPA celebrated 20 years at Java Gala this past June 4.

Students from across all five departments performed, spoke, and exhibited their work for a sellout audience. Members of AVPA’s first class of Hall of Fame and Distinguished Recognition were inducted and thanked for their contributions to the program over the last 20 years.

Nearly $30,000 was raised at Java with the support of sponsors and Mobile Cause “text-to-donate” campaign.
