Dateline Dayton — Does anyone care? Children are being abused and killed daily by persons who should be caring for them. Often the deaths are violent. Babies are shaken to death, beaten, shot.

When will it stop? Will it?

Caring people must come together and do something. I continue to advocate the need for a license to have and to care for children. I will not see change in my lifetime, but I hope my children will.

I read where a police officer left a 3-year-old in her police car. The motor was running for 4 hours while she enjoyed a good time with a fellow officer. Fortunately, both have been fired.

Flagging Interest?

Does anyone care? Now the disrespect for our flag and the National Anthem has spread from the pros to high school sports, including bands. A disgrace. Thank you professional football for giving our youth another bad example and doing nothing to stop the disrespect.

I am disappointed veterans’organizations haven’t been raising a stink about the lack of respect being shown for our country. Maybe it just isn’t important.

Does anyone care? Ryan Lochte, the Olympic disgrace to our country, is still on Dancing with the Stars. I was sure he would be the first one voted off. Wrong. Many probably don’t even remember or didn’t know what he did to our country in Rio. It’s so easy to forget, one reason I believe Donald Trump will be elected, along with the fact that he has the best vice president. People have short memories.

House-Hunting

Our daughter is moving back to Dayton. I have been trying to find a house for her. We would like it to be in our condo project. A few weeks ago, she informed me of a unit that was available, but I thought it was too expensive.

Last Thursday I got a notice from my realtor that the price had been reduced. I went to the condo office for information. A son was selling it for his mother, who had died.

Believing this could be motivated seller, I scheduled a showing for that afternoon and we were very impressed with the unit. New carpet, newly painted bathrooms, it was ideal.

In the evening we were in the realtor’s office making an offer that was accepted on Friday with no counter. Did I leave money on the table?

Monday we arranged for the inspection at 8 a.m. the next day.

The inspector asked about my concerns — the back windows and the electrical panel, both of which he said would be written up as defective. Next was the water heater. I had not seen it on our walk-through. I

I crawled under the stairs to take a look. “Do you hear water dripping?” he asked. I didn’t.

Once out of the closet I heard the water, which was dripping from the ceiling.

Someone had removed the washer and dryer, which was scheduled.

However, they didn’t turn off the water completely. It spilled all over the laundry area upstairs and dripped though the ceiling, which looked as if it could come down at any time.

Don’t know what we are going to do once the cleanup and repairs are completed.

All they would have needed to do was to place the hoses, which they left in the drain.
