The pre-season is almost over for the Culver City High School baseball and softball teams.

This means Ocean League play is four days away.

The baseball and softball teams have played tough pre-season schedules, which sometimes is good.

If the Centaurs can learn from playing top teams in Southern California, there will be no surprises when league play starts.

The baseball team has one more harsh before starting league play.  They travel to Los Angeles City power Chatsworth Saturday for an 11 o’clock game,

The 7-7 Centaurs beat St. Monica, 4-1, on Tuesday so they have momentum going into the lion’s den tomorrow. Chatsworth is ranked No. 29 in the state, 123rd nationally.

Even if ace pitcher Nolan Martinez is not on the mound on Saturday he thinks his team still can win.  “I cannot pitch every game, but I think this team is going to go far,” said Martinez. “We have a lot of good pitchers and good hitters.”

The Centaurs will start Ocean League play on Tuesday. They are home against Lawndale at 3:15. On Thursday they play at Lawndale at 3:15.  Lawndale is 7-4.

The girls softball team, 5-6-1, starts Ocean League play at home Wednesday at 3:15 against Lawndale. Next Friday they travel to El Segundo for a 7 o’clock  game.

Javier Gabby Chacon has replaced longtime coach John Sargent.
