Re “New Bond Measures Possible, CBAC Says

Reporting on the final interview Supt. Josh Arnold gave last Tuesday, six scant hours before the School Board gave him the axe, carries a whiff of sweeping up infragrant ashes following a huge fire.

His responses were wash-day clean.

They packed the pleasant aroma of well-pondered, freshly laundered frankness, just like the first interview he gave last July 7.

The present evidence is that at the time of the interview, 5:30, the superintendent did not know his contract had only hours to breathe. The reader may disagree with that by the end.

Even though Dr. Arnold still is a young man in his 30s, he has observed and collected a broad range of educational experiences.

None of this could have prepared him for his abrupt rumor-free dismissal.

Dr. Arnold was asked about the recent relatively sunny update from CBAC, the Community Budget Advisory Committee that indicated a new bond measure campaign may be dawning.

“Part of what we value about having a Community Budget Advisory Committee is being able to touch base on a grassroots level,” Dr. Arnold said.

“Are we doing the right things with our resources that will match the needs and the priorities of the community?

“I believe our community has been pleased with the way we have been using our resources and also with being resourceful about our resources.”

Pleased, but…

“We are excited about the positives in the report,” said the outgoing super. “But there also is a little bit of the tone of ‘So what else can you do?’”

That question now will have to be answered by someone else.
