On Tuesday evening, the Exchange Club of Culver City will host its 51st Fireworks Extravaganza at West Los Angeles College. Gates open at 4.

The fireworks show celebrates Culver City’s 100th birthday with specially designed aerial and ground displays.

The show is a designated Culver City Centennial event.

Co-sponsored by the city of Culver City, County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and West L.A. College, the program will include a Kids Zone, a dozen gourmet food trucks, a barbecue, live entertainment from the show stage and a mega-raffle with 65 prizes – grand prizes including a luxury hotel vacation and a big screen television.

All proceeds go to underwrite the many local charities supported by the Exchange Club. They include the club’s

national effort to prevent child abuse. Other recipients include the YMCA, the Sandy Siegel Youth Health Center, Backpacks for Kids (providing support for Culver City students from families with food challenges) and a variety of local sports programs from youth soccer to basketball and lacrosse.

The Exchange Club also presented a record 24 scholarships to deserving college-bound local students.

Garden State, the fireworks presenter, is one of the nation’s oldest and most venerable providers.

Founded in 1890, Garden State has supplied fireworks for the Fourth of July on the National Mall, at the Statue of Liberty, the Winter Olympics and Disney World

“To commemorate Culver City’s 100th birthday,” said co-organizer Xavier Nuques, “we have more food trucks, more live music, more fireworks and more family fun than ever.”

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and low lawn chairs for comfort. Limited seating for less ambulatory guests and handicapped access will be available.
