Undeniably, the most fulfilled woman in Culver City, yesterday, today and a bushel of tomorrows is Leslie Lockhart, freshly promoted from assistant superintendent to the newly created title of interim superintendent.

A 19-year veteran of the School District she rang bells of unbridled excitement before dashing home to celebrate with her family:

Daughter Kennedy, 20, home from the University of Chicago, son Sean,16, daughter London, 7, and husband Bill, a teacher at Culver Park High School whose age will remain undisclosed until his next birthday.

If you felt a draft, the School District was superintendent-less for almost three dozen hours.

The School Board canned Dr. Josh Arnold just before midnight on Tuesday.

How long Ms. Lockhart will occupy the seat of the driver of course is unclear.

A year ago, Supt. Dave LaRose announced in late February he was stepping down. Dr. Arnold was hired five minutes after the school year ended.

Ms. Lockhart, most recently assistant superintendent, human resources, said there is not so much difference between her old responsibilities and her new one.

Ms. Lockhart said that her responsibilities will not change so much as they will merely widen.

“My main duties as assistant superintendent were to take care of the staff that takes care of our students,” she said.

“As interim superintendent, I will now be taking care of students and staff, everyone who is within the Culver City Unified School District.”
