Your turn, City Councilman Jim Clarke said after Monday evening’s meeting.

“I got what I wanted ,” he said after the pro-cannabis retail store majority voted to place on a future agenda his proposed amendments (see below) that would severely tighten guidelines for retail cannabis.

It has less of a chance than a snowball residing on a hot stove burner. But, underdogs sometimes win, Mr. Clarke said.

Confident that residents side with him and not the present Council majority, Mr. Clarke said:

“When my amendments go on a Council agenda in January or February, it is up to the community in force and support my amendments,” he said.

Proposed amendment to Section 11.17.205 of the Cannabis Ordinance “Operating Requirement for Storefront Retail Operations.”  Add a new subsection B and C.

1. Consistent with subsection A, the first priority for location of a retail cannabis store shall be within a commercial center that maintains its own off-street customer parking.  If there is no available space within the commercial center or the landlord of the commercial center disallows the operation of a retail cannabis store, then the store may be located in a commercial area adjacent to a residential neighborhood provided the store is located at least 100 feet from the corner of any residential street.
2. No two retail cannabis stores may be located closer than one half linear mile from each other.
