According to the School District’s own unaudited actuals for the last six years:

Total District spending rose by more than $20M.

In those years, District employee compensation went up $19.3M.

IN 2013, Transparent California showed that there were only 21 teachers costing the District more than $100K to employ them.

  • In 2014, there were 44.
  • In 2015, there were 71 teachers.
  • In 2016, the figure more than doubled to 151 or 40 percent of the teaching staff.

So you do not need to be an accountant to see where most of the School Board’s spending increases ended up going.

In the last six years, the School Board has deficit spent an average of 3.75 percent more than it has received in revenues.

Last year, 2016-17, the School Board deficit spent $4.8M. It is projecting continuing to do so into the next decade:

  • 2017-18 $5.28M   7.47 percent
  • 2018-19 $2.64M   3.62 percent
  • 2019-20 $1.55M   2.08 percent

After years of deficit spending, their past choices are being seen as unsustainable.

Now the School Board is counting on the community to bail them out to compensate for their years of irresponsible spending with an infusion of new tax money into the School District’s General Fund.

Looking at the School Board’s extended spending history, I am not sure we should trust them spending our tax money in a fiscally sound, responsible manner.
